Huber & Suhner - Essex
In 1996, Huber + Suhner (H+S), a global supplier of electrical
and optical connectivity systems and components for communication,
transportation, and industry markets, acquired the property that
they reside on today from IBM. Located on over 19.5 acres on the
south side of Thompson Drive in Saxon Hill Industrial Park the company
decided in 2000 to expand its building to accommodate growing business.
Trudell Consulting Engineers (TCE) working with Bread Loaf Corporation
and assisted H+S with their development plans to add 26,419 square
feet of warehouse and office space to the existing building. The
expansion also required an additional 151 parking spaces. The project
necessitated redesign to the existing stormwater infiltration pond
that included installation of an emergency overflow spillway, installation
of a new Aqua-Swirl pretreatment device to be installed upstream
of the basin inlet to remove sediment, oils and other pollutants
before infiltration in the basin, installation of a new manhole
and drain line on the existing roof drain to redirect runoff from
the roof into the basin to improve groundwater recharge from the
site and comply with the Stormwater Management Procedures, and removal
of the accumulated sediment in the bottom of the existing basin.
TCE’s efforts were divided into three specific phases and
entailed the following duties: Site review, geotechnical services,
complete site design, including water, sewer, and erosion control,
permitting, and construction site visits. TCE continues to provide
annual inspections for stormwater.
