Appletree Terrace - Burlington
Trudell Consulting Engineers (TCE) has been involved with the design
of Appletree Terrace since 1988. Appletree Terrace is a residential
project that includes 148-units designed specifically to fit into
an existing community that contains both single-family units and
condominiums. Municipal connections to water and sewer are included
in the site design.
In the development plans, a balance is created between wetland
preservation and on-site amenities. On the 19 acres of wetlands
at Appletree Terrace, the design impacts a mere one-third acre.
A pesticide plan has been created to meet city standards, and a
series of ponds, including a bioretention pond, were designed to
minimize impact on wetlands downstream and Lake Champlain.
Lighting has also played an important role in the development of
Appletree Terrace. Two different light fixtures have been proposed
– one fixture is designated for the parking areas, and the
other for the proposed new city street. The light fixtures designed
for the street were made for the city of Burlington, and have now
become the city’s standard. Light levels on the street conform
to the city’s regulations.
